1. The Idea of Container Prefab Homes

  1. The Architect is well-known with local formalities and best practices (these are different from Municipality to Municipality) and following his suggestion will save you plenty of time and annoyance;

  2. The Architect can suggest appropriate individual solutions that will considerably improve the look and functionality of your house.

  3. In some cases, you will require a designer to deal with official procedures and permits of the Municipality.

3. Drafting a Budget

Many think that Container Prefab Homes are delivered by the Manufacturer fully finished and ready for you to move in, But that's not true. You may need to fix the right amount of budget for the side expenses.

  • Foundations and Groundworks: this is generally out of the scope for a factory Manufacturer, and you may have to take care of it before the house is delivered.

  • Connections: same as the point above. Links to the networks (water, sewer, electricity, communications) shall be planned and executed together with foundation.

  • Structure of the House: It comes from the factory Manufacturer and usually finished and installed on the site.

  • Doors and Windows: Normally delivered and installed by the factory, but make sure you use this well in your building in advance.

  • Roof: It depends on the type of cover you select for your roof.

  • Technical installations: electricity, heating, plumbing, ventilation, are the central installations in the house, and, authorized and expert local Companies must do them.

  • Interior finishes: When the technical installations are in place, the house is ready to be completed.

  • Construction site: So, last but not least, safety, security, accessibility, these are the most important things to consider for a construction site.

4. Choosing the Best Manufacturer

It is a time-consuming operation to Choose the right Manufacturer. In this stage, you may have a lot of questions and you may start interacting with Manufacturers randomly to get your answers.


5. Choosing all other Contractors

The best way to build a prefab container house "by yourself" is to find a local contractor who can take care of most of the works that are not performed by the Manufacturer. When the right contractor is working, the Manufacturer will have a competent person to contact on the site.  In construction - proper information flow is often what makes or breaks the project.


6. Engineering Works

As all the workers have been hired, it is time to begin the engineering works for building the prefab house. This stage will take considerable time, and it is one of the fundamental steps of how Container Prefab Homes are built. Depending on the size of the Container Prefab Homes and the complexity of the architecture, the engineering design can take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks.


7. Preparing the Construction Site

The construction site should be prepared while the engineering design is on-going. Before the design is finished, The Manufacturer will send the plan of loads to the "plan of loads to the foundation," so that the General Contractor will be able to execute the foundation works. The right timing is critical in this stage.

10. On-site Assembly

11. Technical Installations

As the structure of the house is up now, the Team of the Manufacturer can leave, and the site will need to be worked with General Contractor, who shall coordinate the works of the Companies executing the technical installations. Typical installations for a standard Container Prefab Homes include plumbing, electricity, ventilation, heating, communications. It may take several weeks to get all those works finished and tested adequately.


12. Interior Finishes 

In the last stage, the General Contractor (or other appointed Company) will perform the Interior Finishing Works. Depending on the size of the Container Prefab Homes and the level of the finishes, this stage can take anywhere between two weeks and a few months.


13. Handing Over the House

Once the Interior Finishing Works are completed, the General Contractor shall perform a final inspection together with the Owner, and they should verify that everything has been built according to the plan and the expectations. The Container Prefab Home is now ready for the owners to move in.

So, unless you are planning to build on the peak of a mountain, it is safe to assume that your best bet is to create a Container Prefab Homes.
